Touch typing on a UK keyboard
These lessons use the standard UK (Windows/PC) layout. TypeEasily has a full UK keyboard layout, so every lesson matches the keys in front of you. If your browser is set to British or Irish English, the trainer picks the UK layout for you. You can change it at any time in the keyboard menu.
What's different on a UK keyboard
The home row is the same as on a US keyboard. Left hand on A S D F, right hand on J K L ;, with the bumps on F and J under your index fingers. The letters are in the same places too. The differences are in the symbols:
" (quotation marks) is Shift + 2.
@ is Shift + the quote key, just right of the semicolon.
£ is Shift + 3.
# has its own key, next to a tall Enter key.
There's an extra \ key between the left Shift and Z.
How TypeEasily teaches it
Your right little finger looks after the quote, @ and # keys, so it does a bit more reaching on a UK keyboard. TypeEasily teaches the UK quotation marks in step 27 and the UK @ in step 30, so you learn the reach your keyboard actually needs.
Make sure your computer is also set to the UK layout. If the app and the computer disagree, keys like @ and " will come out wrong.
