Touch typing on a US keyboard

TypeEasily has a full US keyboard layout. The trainer uses it unless your browser is set to British or Irish English or you choose something else. You can switch layouts at any time in the keyboard menu.

Your hands on the home row

Your hands start on the home row. Left hand on A S D F, right hand on J K L ;. Your index fingers rest on F and J, the two keys with small bumps, and your thumbs share the space bar. Every other key is a reach from there, and the on-screen keyboard shows which finger to use.

Symbols worth knowing

@ is Shift + 2.

" (quotation marks) is Shift + the quote key, just right of the semicolon.

# is Shift + 3.

\ sits above a wide Enter key.

How the course runs

The course takes you from J and K through the top and bottom rows to the whole alphabet. After that come capital letters, numbers, punctuation, and @ and & in their US positions. It ends with English sentences and adaptive practice. There are 34 steps, and you can jump between them whenever you like.

Make sure your computer is also set to the US layout, so the keys you press match the ones on screen.
